Ryan Timms Captures Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway

Oklahoma Racer Becomes Second-Youngest Winner

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (08/11/25) – For as long as Ryan Timms can remember, there was one race he dreamed of winning above all others: the Knoxville Nationals. This past weekend, the 18-year-old Oklahoma City native turned that dream into reality, leading all 50 laps at the famed Sprint Car Capital of the World to claim a career-defining victory and a staggering $195,000 payday.

The triumph not only marked Timms’ first national touring series win but also his 11th overall of the season and sixth 410 Sprint Car victory of 2025 at Knoxville Raceway.

“Just so much excitement, so much disbelief,” Timms said. “This is awesome. I never thought I’d be standing here for the Knoxville Nationals. This is so awesome. I don’t even know what to say. It’s so awesome. I want to thank all the fans. I’ve never been able to win in front of a crowd like this. To be given this opportunity is amazing. There’re so many great people that got me here. I wouldn’t be standing here without Shane Liebig. He’s my crew chief and car owner. He’s coached me through this whole thing. My dad, my mom, the whole family. There’s a whole list. I know I’m forgetting some people, but we won the Knoxville Nationals!”

Timms and the Liebig Motorsports team set the tone from the moment they unloaded on Wednesday for their preliminary night at the 64th NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s. He qualified third-fastest among 51 cars, advanced four positions in his heat to finish fourth, and stormed from eighth to the lead in the 25-lap prelim — overtaking early leader Justin Peck on lap 10 and pulling away to an impressive victory.

That effort secured Timms the pole position for Saturday’s A-Main through the event’s points format. From the drop of the green flag, he never wavered, maintaining control throughout. Even after the midway break, he set a relentless pace at the front, ultimately taking the checkered flag uncontested to claim the coveted trophy.

With the victory, Timms became the second-youngest champion in Knoxville Nationals history, behind only Kenny Weld. The milestone also marked the first Knoxville Nationals triumph for Liebig Motorsports.

“I’ve just been surrounded by great people,” Timms reflected. “That’s what it comes down to. You can be a really good race car driver, have a really good car, but there’re so many pieces that come together that make things like this happen. It’s been a journey. To click such a crown jewel race, the biggest Sprint Car race in the world so soon, I really can’t even believe I’m standing here. I never would’ve imagined it. It’s just amazing.”

Timms is set to rejoin the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series on Saturday at Minnesota’s Jackson Motorplex, followed by a Sunday stop at Huset’s Speedway to close out the weekend.
